Abstract EN

This paper analyzes the core banking systems implemented within the Sudanese banking sector in terms of history, technical characteristics, evolution and replacement.

At the end of 2017 a questionnaire was administered to the heads of IT departments within the banks.

This resulted in information from 22 commercial banks representing 76% of the local banks in Sudan at the time of the study.

The study identified and analyzed 31 core banking systems that were implemented within the sector from 1983 to 2017.

The paper presents an analysis of the continuity, origin and technology of these core banking systems, while considering the effects of duration and technological change on their operation, continuity, technical characteristics and replacement.

This study contributes a documentation of the core banking systems implemented within the Sudanese banking sector from 1983 to 2017.

Moreover, it analyzes the quality and extent in which these systems satisfied the requirements of the Sudanese banking regulations.
