The ecological philosophy of Hans Jonas criticizes the traditional philosophies for being devoted to the idea of 'anthropocentric' through the discrimination between man and nature, and to give him the right to control it.

It also criticizes the contemporary human act which its intervention has increased in nature, relying on the scientific and technological progress.

Faced with this serious ecological situation, Hans Jonas wanted to establish a new ethics to protect the present and the future of nature and humanity from human acts, stressing that the nature is associated with value and seeks to maintain its existence like man, who must bear responsibility toward it because it is he who hurt it and this is what 'the ethics of responsibility' is calling for and which is looking for a better future to nature and humanity to gather
