Abstract EN
Greek thought plays a salient role in friedrich nietzsche’s philosophy.
so much so that he devoted his first book, the birth of tragedy, to a new analytic reconception of Greek history.
there is a sense that in understanding what he likes about the ancient Greeks is essential in understanding what he disliked and despised about ‘modern’ society.
Nietzsche's ‘obsession’ towards the Greeks led him to call them, on endless occasions, “beautiful.” in it is in this light that this article seeks to understand Nietzsche's views on ancient Greek thought-what makes it so important, and what led him to call them so “beautiful.” likewise, this article will by and large focus on Nietzsche's birth of tragedy, for it is there that the crux of his thinking on Greek matters lies.
