Abstract EN

This article examines the constituents of Eupt's national identity as understood by 'Abdallah al-Nadim, the orator of the 'Urabi revolution.

It seems that al-Nadim was preoccupied constantly with one single idea: Ecpt.

Throughout his career he tried to define the nature of the Egyptian "watan ", its political and economic system, and its social and cultural background.

The paper will argue that al-Nadimpresented a complex, evolved definition of an Egyptian nationalism based on specific elements which he considered necessary for the creation of an Egyptian national identity.
