Abstract EN

This study aimed at identifying the degree of practicing academic freedom in the Algerian university from the point of view of faculty members.

To achieve this objective, the researchers used the descriptive method and designed a questionnaire of these dimensions: freedom of teaching, freedom of decision-making, freedom of scientific research and freedom of expression.

The study was conducted on a sample of (72) faculty members.

The results showed that the faculty members of the Algerian university exercised academic freedom to a moderate degree.

Freedom of teaching came first, followed by freedom of scientific research and freedom of expression.

This study recommended the development of higher education regulations to make universities obliged to provide as much academic freedom as possible to faculty members of the Algerian University in all fields, particularly freedom of decision-making, and the establishment of associations in order to raise awareness of the importance of academic freedom and to protect and defend it.
