The competitiveness of countries in the international markets reflects their ability to produce and export the most dynamic products that are associated with the technological density summarized by UNIDO as «the Competitive Industrial Performance Index".

This index measures the technological structure of industries' added value and industrial exports.

Analysis of the efficiency of the Algerian economy has shown that it is dependent on hydrocarbon production and export.

This has impacted negatively on the contribution of technology activities to the industrial added value and to the export of technological products.

Improving the performance of the Algerian economy and its competitiveness can only be achieved by improving the performance of the industrial sector, particularly the technological branches.
