Abstract EN

This research deals with the criteria of praise poetry (eulogy) in the context of the old Arab critical discourse .These criteria were expressed during the questioning of the opinion of ancient critics and their judgment on this art.

Their judgment resulted in various level of critical criteria, such as the criterion of psychological virtues, the construction of the praise poem, honestly, exaggeration and balances, the affirmation of praise that resembles dispraise, structure, ambiguity of meaning, deviation of praise to satire, praise of the highest using the lowest, opposition of the familiar on the level of meaning and image, and the typical praise poem.

The research concludes with the research findings.
