Abstract EN

Modern and contemporary Arab thought is distinguished by its ability to fuse idioms and create affinities amongst them, particularly during the period preceding the fundamentalist religious upsurge in the face of Secularism, this thought is also marked by the competition among theorists on both sides to suggest ecumenical or conflictual relations between religion and secularism.

This leads to the central question of this research: is it not possible for human beings to organize their lives through rationalist approaches independently of religious or non-religious affairs? Subsequently, shouldn't human beings be able to do so motivated by ethical principles? This research includes answers to this central question, and its subsequent interrogations, from the standpoint of instilling rationalism between religions and secularism.

The answer is based on critical rationalist foundation that embraces what is new and deals with it developmentally to cope with the contemporary and the human.

What is meant by rationalism in this research is deeper than the separation between religion and politics.

What I mean is freeing the intellect from ideological, religious, and secular hegemonies, through enhancing critical thinking, and through rationalist considerations that explicate the relationship between religion and secularism through a historical perspective that can be bypassed.

The conclusion attempts to explain and clarify the historical relationship between the religious and the secular, from its being a possible relation to its being immaterial.

If such clarification were effective, then we would have be able to explain to those who insist on the idea that relationship between religion and politics is inherently conditioned by religious consideration, that their insistence is misplaced.

We would also have proven that a serious rationalist national culture is not simply" watching from the stands, "nor is it neutral in addressing national issues and causes of rebirth and building.
