Abstract EN

The research aimed to identify the most important social and economic changes at Garat Om El Sagher.

It also aimed to identify the effects of using solar energy as a new source of electrical energy and the impact of its usage on the social and ecomomic changes.

It aimed to identify the most important problems facing individuals in “Garat Om El Sagher” from the sample perspective and the suggestions to overcome these problems.

The research include all the 79 houses that got solar energy at Garat Om El Sagher ,the the sample is the 79 individuals owning the 79 houses.

The data were collected by using the in-depth group discussions.

Thus the sample was divided into 8 in-depth groups with 10 individuals each group.

The data were collected in April 2014.

The research main results: - Women’s role has become obvious as a result of satellites.

Women participate with the head of the family to improve their income and economical level by giving more attention to the aesthetic shape to her environmental handicraft products.

- Relative change towards consanguineous marriage has appeared and families became interested in knowing the unhealthy results caused by it as a result of watching health program on satellite.

- Political awareness, participation in elections and issues related to the village has been increased as a result of watching political program on satellite.

- Usage of some modern tools at home appeared as a result of satellite and the awareness of what is new and modern.

- Manufacturing some handicrafts and household artifacts has been developed as a result of watching satellite at houses.

- Taking care of dates and olive crops has encountered a relative development as a result of watching channels specialized in agriculture through satellite.

- The state is providing more services that are depending on electricity as a result of having the solar energy inside the village.The most important problems facing “Garat Om El Sagher” community One problem is to finish connecting the solar energy to the rest of the houses .Another problem is to market their products in a commercial way.

There is not a factory to manufacture dates products, nor an oil-press.

Also, there is no health care unit at the village.

There is not enough financial incentives to make teachers and doctors settle at the village.

The village needs a youth center.

The most important recommendations to face these problems: One of the researcher’s recommendations is to increase the power of solar energy in that community as the electrical devices require high energy force.

She also recommends establishing a factory to manufacture date products.

Another recommendation is to construct an automatic or semiautomatic olive press, to save money and efforts in the process of transporting the crop to Siwa or Matrooh.

A health care unit must be established in the village with sufficient financial incentives to the doctors encouraging them to live in “Garat Om El Sagher” village.

Another recommendation is to give youth more care through cultural troops, exchanging visits to mingle them in the community and its members and to increase the sense of belonging, and loyalty in them.

Another recommendation is to establish a youth center.
