Abstract EN

The study aimed at identifying the actual extension role of NGOs in the development of small and micro enterprises, describing benefit levels of the extension activities provided by NGOs in the field of small and micro enterprises development, the level of the respondents which represent the extension role provided by the activities of NGOs in the field of small enterprises and micro-development, and to identify the expected extension role of NGOs in the same field and to identify the most important problems facing small entrepreneurs, and their suggestion to solve it.

Study was conducted in El Tour district, in South Sinai governorate, on a systematic random sample of beneficiaries of the extension activities of three NGOs: community development in Sinai, Future Youth and integrated care.

The sample was 220 respondents.

Data were collected through personal interview guided by questionnaire.

The statistical analysis tools were: Pearson's simple correlation coefficient, step- wise multiple regression analysis, frequencies, percentages, arithmetic mean, and standard deviation.

Findings could be summarized as follows: -About 74.5% of the total respondents reported a low level of benefit from the activities provided by NGOs, while 20.5% indicated that they have benefited from the extension activities.

Finally, about 5.0% of the respondents reported that their benefit level of these activities is high.

-The most important factors determining the level of benefit of respondents from the extension activities provided by NGOs in the field of SME development are: standard of living, level of ambition and economic aspirations, cultural openness and number of formal education years.

-The most important problems faced by small entrepreneurs were: insufficient loan value for the implementation of the project, high interest rate on loans, and the difficulty of guarantees required from the lenders.

- The most important suggestions to solve the problems were: to provide more sources for loans, reducing interest rate on loans, and to facilitate the guarantees imposed on loans.
