Although the international community has taken some steps in order to establish international criminal responsibility for international crimes.

However, there is still a long way to go before this serious type of crimes is fully deterred.

The legal system of the international criminal sanction is still hampered by various prevailing conditions in the world, which stand as obstacles to the establishment of the idea of international criminal sanction.

The most prominent of them are the political obstacles and challenges, which enabled many international criminals impunity.

This article is titled as: “Obstacles and Political Challenges Preventing the Effectiveness of International Criminal Sanction.” In order to address this issue, we review two important matters: The first, related to the impact of political tendencies and philosophical backgrounds, whereas the second deals with the impact of immunity principle upon the international criminal sanction.
