Abstract EN

The modern technology of information and communication ( TIC) is one of the most important variables that have affected the activity of commercial banks in recent times, the development of TIC Has led to a variety of services provided by banks to customers, as well as ways of dealing with.

The saturation of the banking market and the low margin of mediation due to the dintermediation witnessed by the global banking system and the decrease in the volume of consolidated deposits affected the profitability of commercial banks.

Therefore, banks are moving towards the use of modern methods of automation and electronic networks in the provision of services and acceptance of deposits and payment mechanisms and granting credit.

This study aims to evaluate the payment system in the Algerian economy and compare it with its European counterpart in order to benefit from the latter's experience in this field.

The study concluded that there are a number of internal challenges which represent the most important shortcomings and weaknesses that characterize Algerian banks.
