Abstract EN

The exclusive economic zone of the new areas approved by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea extends to 200 nautical miles measured from the baseline of the territorial sea of the coastal State.

International reality shows that States have benefited from this region not so much, some of which have no access to the sea, and some are geographically disadvantaged that do not allow them to benefit from the living and non-living resources of the exclusive economic zone, The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea has attempted to consolidate, as far as possible, the views on the utilization by those States of some of the wealth in the region, and has established special conditions and arrangements to allow them to benefit within certain limits.
