Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to identify how much the university students in Saudi Arabia are aware of cybersecurity from a social perspective and from their point of view by identifying their views on its closest definition, the most important crimes it deals with, the methods of society's prevention of cybercrimes and the societal obstacles to achieving the prevention of such crimes.

This study used the social survey sampling method, and relied on the use of the descriptive study by applying it to a random sample of students at different levels at the Saudi universities.

The study sample was 486 students.

The study was based on the e-form for data collection.

The findings showed that the closest definition to cybersecurity from the point of view of the study sample is "the use of a range of technical, organizational and administrative means to prevent the unauthorized use, prevent misuse, and restore electronic transactions, communications and information systems it contains".

Whereas the crime of "electronic fraud" came as the most prominent crime dealt with by cybersecurity.

The society's most important methods of prevention is media awareness of the problems of cyberspace.

The findings showed also the existence of social obstacles of its prevention in the Saudi society as the most important of such obstacles is the tremendous development in information systems and technology media, with which family members deal without the full knowledge of their problems and how to avoid them.

The study included a number of recommendations, the most important of which are awareness, the development of cybersecurity infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, the tightening of penalties for cybercrimes, the dissemination of educational curricula within the different educational stages to explain it and the role of the individual within, in addition to the family supervision of children when it comes to deal with the Internet and the means of modern technology.
