English Abstract

The morphological changes of the water course and its leaveing out for some Secondary ones that had been subject to silting are the most important geomorphological characteristics of the Nile River, where one branch expands on the expense of the other to accommodate the canal water, the other branch decays gradually, and becomes coveres with sediments.

Accordingly, The abandoned water chan¬nels were originally main water channels that changed with the passage of time into second¬ary ones, the then to water arms, to end up to become abandoned channels (interrupted link between them and the course of the Nile), the areas occupied by the remains of those sewage are characterized by low-level , narrow width ,and variable geomorphological phenomena, and Uses.

The research aims at analyzing the abandoned water channels from the Nile stream in the Ma¬lawi sector, in terms of their origin, develop¬ment, and identifying the factors and processes affecting them, both physical and human, with the detection of geomorphological phenomena related to their origin, development and uses.

The study relied on field study as a major source of data acquisition, studying phenome¬na associated with abandoned water channels.

The study also relied on Satellite, topographic maps, and hydrographic maps of the of the bottom of the Nile, using the use of GIS soft¬ware (Auto CAD Map 3D, Auto CAD Civil 3D & ARC GIS) as one of the techniques in the study which gave good results.
