Abstract EN

This paper aims at investigating the companionship of hadith narrators.

It studies narrators who have only one related hadith in Sunan Ibn Majah and whose companionship has been subject to controversy among Muslim experts.

An inductive and analytical approach was adopted to provide a brief historical account of their biography and to evaluate the Muslim experts’ opinions, with a view to determining the most correct judgment.

The findings of the study showed that out of the twenty-six narrators, only four of them were confirmed to be companions.

Fourteen narrators, whose companionship was not confirmed, had related hadiths in Sunan Ibn Majah, but they were narrated on the authority of other companions.

Most of the remaining narrators have no such valid narration, as their narrations are considered hadith MURSAL which falls under the category of the weak hadith “DA’IEF”.

The study also found out that the distinction between those who are companions and those who are not helps to indicate the continuity of the hadith chain, which distinguishes between the accepted hadiths and the rejected ones.
