Abstract EN

This research aims to study what was presented by the English philosopher Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) in reading the prophetic biography in the second lecture of his book “On Heroes, hero-worship, and the heroic in history”, by the name of “the hero as Prophet.

Mohammed: Islam”.

This research defined Carlyle, his book and his theory in interpreting history, then presented an analytical and critical account of his flawed reporting on the events of the Prophetic Biography, his description of these events, his analysis of them, all the way through to his misconception of Islam in general.

The researchers of this study adopted both the inductive and critical approaches.

The study concluded that Carlyle was not as fair in drawing on the subjects and issues of the Prophetic Biography as he was perceived to be among researches and academics.

It was shown that his writing of the lecture was influenced by John Calvin’s predestination doctrine, which is based on raising the individual’s work status, and the significance of the individual’s role in cultural achievement.

The study has shown that Carlyle’s praise of the prophet (Blessings and Peace be Upon Him), does not at all indicate his belief in his prophecy, but rather it is strictly out of his humanitarian respect for an influential person in the history of humanity, with the separation of this view from his personal prophecy.

In this accurate research, it was revealed that the inefficiency in interpreting Prophetic Biography and its descriptive account of it by Carlyle and others, disqualifies the accurate and true narratives and disregards its original references and the misinterpretation to its texts with mental illusions that lack scientific objectivity.
