Abstract EN

The term “Suluk al-Jaddah” literally means to indicate “following up the path”, while its technical meaning refers to keeping up the familiar way of narrating prophetic tradition by means of maintaining typical and famous chain of narrators.

The term is one of many clues used by hadith experts to realize the presence of defects in a hadith.

This paper aims at shedding light on its origin, concept, usage in Ibn Hajar’s book Nataaej al-Afkar; which is one of the most important books of science of Hadith by a well-known scholar in the field.

Moreover, the paper aims at clarifying when to affirm defect in a Hadith using this clue and when to deny judging it as such.

In addition to this theoretical study, the paper figures out hadiths that can be considered as having this sort of defect within the book on a practical basis.

The researchers follow the inductive and analytical method in their study.

Among the findings of this study is the presence of five hadiths that can be categorized as defective in the book where Ibn Hajar has confirmed three and declined the other two
