Abstract EN

This study discusses both overt and covert occasions in specific verses and those preceding and following them within the same chapter as presented in Sheikh Mohammed Sayyid Tantawi’s Intermediate Exegesis of the Holy Quran.

The theoretical component of the study includes an introduction to the study of “occasions” and highlights its significance in Qur’anic exegesis.

It also examines the various views held by Muslim scholars towards this subject.

Meanwhile, the applied component of the study provides illustrative examples of occasions in Surat Al-Baqarah and the thematic divisions of verses in this chapter as presented in Tantawi’s Intermediate Exegesis.

It further highlights the endeavors of Sheikh Tantawi in establishing a distinctive approach to the subject of “occasions” based on a non-pretentious and simple presentation of such occasions that can be easily comprehended by Muslims.
