Abstract EN

Our current presentation will attempt to shed light on the historical role that the lingua franca played from the end of the Middle Ages in the linguistic, cultural and commercial spheres to further the intercultural dialogue between the two shores of the Mediterranean.

A bridge was created between the Arab-Muslim world whose status at that period of time was at its peak and the medieval Europe (France-Italy-Spain) who lived in a total obscurantism.

We will rely on reliable historical facts.

To that end, the history of the relationship between the two shores of the Mediterranean will be dealt with taking into consideration several factors, including religion, trade, wars and diplomacy.

More precisely, we will tackle the different elements that helped- to varying degrees- transmit knowledge, cultures, and languages from southern Europe to the Maghreb countries and vice versa.
