Abstract EN

This article, which deals with Colonel Scott’s tour from Spain to Morocco, and then to his colleague Emir Abd-el-Kader, is entitled: A Journal of a Residence in the Esmailla of Abd-el-Kader, and of Travels in Morocco and Algiers, by colonel Scott.

Colonel Scott wrote about his trip in the form of a diary at the beginning of 1940s.

This diary was published in London in 1942, and then translated to Arabic by Dr.

Ismail El-Arabi to be published (Arabic version) in 1981.

As a matter of fact, Scott’s diary is one of the fewest manuscripts which depicted some customs and traditions of the Arabic Maghreb under the tribal system.

Moreover, it exposed the issues of women, Christians, Jews and more importantly the idolized character of Emir Abd-el-Kader especially at the onset of colonialism.
