The study aimed at identifying the role of kindergarten teachers in Lattakia in offering children some reading readiness skills to read and to identify the problems they face in this regard.

A sample was chosen randomly represented the original society of (72) teachers of kindergarten.

A questionnaire was divided into two fields, in addition to an open question about the difficulties that hinder teachers from developing the skills of readiness to read by the child.

Results showed the familiarity of kindergarten teachers of the concept of readiness of kindergarteners to read and the factors that affect it, and the awareness of those teachers of the importance of storytelling activity and the great interest that it offers to kindergarteners.

The results of the study also showed the presence of several difficulties which hinder teachers from performing their role perfectly in developing the skills of willingness to read by kindergarteners, the most important difficulties were: the fast spelling and non remembering the shapes of letters by children; the lack of helping tools in developing the willingness to read; parents don't encourage their children to read, and the big number of children at each section.

The study also showed a statistical significant differences between the mean scores of the kindergarten teachers estimates of their role in developing the skills of willingness to read by children which are attributed to the educational quantification variable, by contrast, there were no statistical significant differences between the mean scores of the kindergarten teachers estimates of their role in developing the skills of willingness to read by children which are attributed to the variable of years experience, and the type of ownership of the kindergarten, and the availability of a library at the kindergarten.

The study recommended the necessity of assuring the criteria of selecting the kindergarten teachers, and holding training sessions for them, which emphasize using helping aids in developing the willingness of the children to read, it also recommended to allocate a sufficient budget by the kindergarten management to buy the stories and books for children, in addition to providing the helping aids in developing the skills of willingness to read
