Abstract EN

Background and Objective: Genital warts (GWs) are dermomucosal lesions transmitted usually in sexual intercourse.

GWs could be manifested in pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy; these warts characterize with their tendency to increase in number and size, and their resistance to classic therapies.

The aim of this study was to compare between trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and liquid nitrogen in the treatment of GWs in pregnant women (efficacy, side effects, and relapse rate).

Materials and Methods: The study includes 40 pregnant women, with diagnosed genital warts, and treated either by liquid nitrogen which was applied by the physician to all patients, or TCA solution which was applied by the same physician.

All patients read and signed an informed consent form, during the period between mid Apr-2015 and mid Apr-2016, in the STD clinic.

Results: The study included 19 patients (pregnant women), treated topically using liquid nitrogen.

the average time until healing was 5 therapy sessions.

21 patients were treated topically with TCA solution 85%.

the average time until healing was 4 therapy sessions.

Conclusions: Both ways of treatment are considered an effective therapeutic method in the treatment of GWs in pregnant women, while the hyperpigmentation after treatment was the most depicted effect in TCA treated women, the hypopigmentation was more common in liquid nitrogen treated group.
