Abstract EN

The study aims at discovering the relation between the attitudes of the families of Psychiatric Patients towards the psychological illness and social support.

The social support scale (Spinder George, 2001) was applied on 70 people from the members of the psychotics' families who are regular goers to the psychological clinics in Damascus Public Hospitals, in addition to another scale to measure attitudes towards the psychological illness.

Results point out positive correlations that have statistical indications between the attitudes of the patients' families towards illness and the amount of the (total) social support offered to the patient.

The correlation equaled (0.399), which indicates a positive correlation coefficient that reaches the indicator (0.001).

this tells of the presence of a positive relation; i.e., the more understanding of the psychological illness, the more support the patient will get.
