Abstract EN
Quest for identity is a recurrent theme in most Afro-American texts.
This study aims at highlighting the issue of female identity in Alice Walker’s Meridian.
In doing so, showing the different concept of womanism adopted by Walker as a counter-reaction to feminism is the main point in this study.
The latter focuses on what differs and converges Walker with some Afro-American novelists when dealing with female identity crisis.
It focalizes on the way Alice Walker handles the theme of female identity from a womanist point of view.
