Abstract EN

This paper tries to trace the outlines of Zellig S.Harris ' s theory of discourse analysis proposed in 1952.

Despite of the fact that Harris himself was an American linguist and distributionlist, he was the first one to introduce the concept of discourse in linguistic analysis.

But, in dealing with this notion, Harris was in fact constituting the framework of a new field of research that of discourse analysis.

Linguistics, before Harris, had been confined in the old-fashioned dogmas which consider linguistic analysis as the study of words structure in the sentence according to the traditional view that sentences are the definitive parts of speech that has meaning.

Through his analysis of what he called connected discourse Harris revealed to what extent parts of speech are linked in the experimental use of language.
