Abstract EN

For centuries, manuscripts of the Koran have arrived in Europe and have been collected and conserved in the libraries of monarchs, ministers and churches.

When orientalism reached its peak in the eighteenth century, many scholars traveled for search of rare koranic manuscripts.

Therefore, they went around famous mosques and acquired the best of their manuscript collections which later ended in national libraries in Europe.

In the end of the first quarter of the twentieth century, interest in these manuscripts was clearly marked in the West, and efforts of orientalists aimed at indexing them for use in their own projects.

The interest has intensified over the last two decades thanks to the deveopment of digital technology, which has led to the circuation of koranic manuscripts and facilitated their dating.

All this has led to the accreditation of academic research projects particularly in Germany and France.

This study has chosen one of these projects hosted in College de France in Paris since 2015.

The project considers the manuscripts of the Koran dating from the 7th to the 10th century AD.

Following Western academic traditions, the project led to setting up a chair called History of the Qur’an.

Text and Transmission.
