The city of Algeria during the nineteenth century was known for its important changes and transformations.

The most important of these was the French occupation in 1830 and the elimination of Ottoman rule.

This occupation was far from the culture, ideology and thought of the Algerians, as they did not assimilate this new and exotic authority over their society.

Where the French authorities adopted a policy to contain the Algerians for the purpose of effective control of the country, is to work on the knowledge and study of their social, economic and cultural structure, to the groups in which they lived, including the category of Jews, who constituted a significant proportion of more than 170,000 people during the 19th century, and the 19th century has negatively affected the Algerians who fell under the yoke of French colonialism, but it was the beginning of a new era for the Jewish minority, and the French administration sought to promote the Jews and grant them broader rights at the expense of the Arabs
