Abstract EN

This article engages with the political and economic causes of the rebellions of Julbān mamluks in the era of Sultan Qāytibāy 872-901/1468-1496.

It demonstrates the political and economic causes that led to the outbreak of these rebellions in Cairo.

Discussing the causes of those rebellions will help to understand the Mamluk politics and the Sultan's relationship with his mamluks and developments that happened in those aspects in the last quarter of the Mamluk state.

Secondly, it describes the economic impact on the authority and public of the Julbān rebellions, which disrupted of the normal domestic and foreign trade and commerce.

Also, its impact on the prevalence of fear and terror among the public.

Third, it shows the role of these rebellions in motivating other groups to rebel and provoke strife and unrest, such as groups of Zʿar and ʿAbed.

Fourthly, it describes the reaction of Sultan Qāytibāy to these rebellions Also, the political, diplomatic and financial means he used with his mamluks to end the rebellions and their political and economic connotations
