The present study aims at identifying children's perception of colors and shapes according to the variables of the age of (3-4-5-6 ) and gender (male and female) and the difference between the perception of colors and shapes according to the variables of the age of (3-4-5-6) and gender (male and female).
A sample population of 200 children was recruited; fifty boys and fifty girls were selected for each age group specified in the study in nursery, kindergarten and primary school in Al- Qadisiyah Governorate, 2017-2018 academic year.
To pursue the aims of the research, the researcher adopted Mohammed's 2015 experiment of color perception which includes thirty sections divided into seven components and Frostege's 2010 experiment of shapes perception which includes forty four sections divided into five components.
The results indicate the following:1-Three year old children do not have the ability to perceive colors and shapes.2- Children's perception of colors and shapes follows a developmental path for ages 4-5-6.
The development follows an accumulative path which proceeds upward in accordance with their own aging.
This supports the behaviorist views that development is accumulative.3- There was no statistically significant difference in the perception of colors and shapes with respect to the variable of gender.4- There are no statistically significant difference in the perception of colors and shapes with respect to the variable of age and in favor of the old age.5- The interaction between the gender and age variables has no effect on the development of the perception of colors and shapes.6- Children's perception of shapes precedes their perception of colors as shapes are more general and comprehensive, Piaget's theory.
