Abstract EN

The aim of the research is to estimate the demand function for the rice commodity in Al-Bayda city, and to derive and interpret the price and income elasticity.

The research was based on the use of the descriptive analysis method, quantitative analysis and statistical analysis of multiple regression method.

The results of the regression analysis show that there are three variables whose significance is determined at the level of (0.01) based on the values of t test, namely the income, the price of the commodity itself and the size of the household and the educational standard at the level of (0.05) The results of the quantitative analysis also showed that the independent variables, namely monthly household income, alternative commodity prices, family size, and educational level are all positively correlated with the required quantity of rice, while the price is inversely related to the quantity of rice.

The total results of the double logarithmic function for the three entry categories show that the elasticity of the price demand is (0.206-) and because it is less than the correct one, it means that the rice commodity is a necessary commodity and the elasticity of the income demand is 0.420.

Since the value is positive and less than the correct one, it means that the goods are necessary.

The results of the descriptive analysis indicate that consumer taste has a significant impact on rice demand, with a relative importance of 44% of the total sample.

The price of rice came in second place (29%), followed by family income (11%) and family (9%).The study recommends providing the rice commodity at suitable price in accordance with the consumers income and to reactivate the role of consumer cooperatives so that these can provide rice at the proper time and adequate price
