Abstract EN

The current research dealt with the textual thresholds of the story title as a text or a linguistic indicator to clarify the relationship with the text from one hand, and the possibility that the title can have its own independent textual characteristics from the other as it possesses two independent structures, which are : 1- the title as a communicative text structure.

2- the title as an independent text structure.

to clarify this relationship between the title and the text, the researcher considered a scheme for the research entitled “the textual thresholds in the series of the stories (the “cage” story as a model)”.

so, the title was classified into three types : the first is the main title, the second is the secondary title and the third is the branch title.

the structure of the title has been tackled as a denotative structure starting from the linguistic base of the title as a unique linguistic type which has its functional particularity, and secondly as it is overlapped with the text as being a smaller structure that lacks a larger text that clarifies the denotations, the element of excitement for the reader and the consequent possible stimulation of the recipient’s response.
