Julio Ramón Ribeyro : autor contracorriente y su cuentística de la marginación

Julio Ramón Ribeyro is one of the most noticeable urban writers of the Peruvian literature in the 20th century.

He is an atypical author within the Boom, for his refusal to the technical novelties of literature of his time.

His short stories are a testimony to a changing Lima, resulting of an internal migration and the presence of mixed races in Peru between the 40's and 60's, which most prominent feature is marginalization.

The marginalization encompasses the author, his excluded characters of a hostile society, the oppressive space, and the time describing a crucial moment in the life of the character, beside the observer narrator and his discursive strategies to avoid all sympathy towards characters.

The fact that the narrative elements differ from a short story to another, does not influence the presence of coherence in the work of Ribeyro, since the official / marginality dichotomy is always present.
