At the end of ninetieth and early twentieth centuries, Al-Azhar witnessed a comprehensive reform movement aimed at reforming the study, education and administration systems.

Imam Muhammad Abdo was the leader of this movement, he had been supported by a number of al-Azhar scholars who played a major role in supporting this reform.

Among these scholars is the personality of Sheikh Muhammad Hassanein Makhlouf Al-Adawi, who held a number of administrative positions in Al-Azhar and his religious institutes.

He gained considerable experience in Al-Azhar affairs and problems, and hindered the reform and development movement.

He achieved great success.

He also had his own reform projects, which included a number of reports and memos he submitted to the rulers and officials of the government and AlAzhar.

They adopted many of their proposals as a basis for reforming matters in Al-Azhar in many places.

This research, entitled "Sheikh Muhammad Hassanein Makhlouf al-Adawi and his role in the reform of Al-Azhar AlSharif" is divided into two parts: the first of which is a full translation of Sheikh Mohammed Hassanein Makhlouf, while the other presents his efforts and contributions to the reform movement in Al-Azhar and its affiliated institutions, His efforts in reforming Al-Azhar, his views on these laws and regulations, and his efforts in reforming Al-Azhar after leaving official posts.

The research was based mainly on the collection of documents and writings of Sheikh Mohammed Hassanein, preserved in the collection of documents of his son Sheikh Hassanein Makhlouf, as well as documents preserved at the National Archives of Cairo and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, as well as a distinguished collection of sources and references to the distinguished history of Al-Azhar during the period of research
