Abstract EN

The current research seeks to investigate the aesthetics of opposition in Khalil Gubran's Al-Mawakib (The Processions).

This phenomenon is considered the most salient stylistic characteristic in the poem to the extent that it can be said that this poem is an excellent exemplification of total opposition of the poet's reality and idealism.

In this context, this study reveals the semantic significance of this phenomenon and the role it plays in encapsulating Gubran's philosophical vision towards his society and its contradictions.

The study also attempts to identify the impact of this phenomenon on both the attraction of the receiver and his/her experience of the vision which obsessed Gubran's thought and emotion.

The current study is mainly based on the analysis of the poem as being a collection of miscellaneous portraits, each of which crystallizes a kind of paradox in the mind of the poet; such a paradox between life in the social reality with its evils, contradictions and fake values, and life in the forests which exemplifies the innate free nature with its purity, innocence and freedom from restrictions
