Abstract EN

This study aims at revealing and clarifying the recent trends of the first marriage in the beginning of the third millennium in Algeria, some demographic and economic factors affecting the average age at first marriage, and the high rates of celibacy in Algerian society during 2002 and 2013.

The study was based on data from the National Survey on Family Health 2002 and the Multi-Indicator Cluster Survey for 2012-2013 (MICS4).

We employed statistical indicators and techniques to calculate the average age at first marriage and the final fertility rates for both sexes.

The study found that the high level of education has an indirect effect on the timing of marriage for both males and females.
