Abstract EN

This study deals with the migration of inhabitants of Tlemcen and the tribes adjacent to it, following its occupation and domination in 1842, which was a crucial stage in the history of French colonialism, which made the final decision in the occupation of Algeria, especially as Tlemcen witnessed internal conflicts and disturbances between the Karaghila who fortified the fortress of Almachoar waiting for the help of the French army , and the people who supported Emir Abdelkader, gathered their equipment and migrated with him to the Algerian-Moroccan border, fleeing the Bugeaud attacks The first decision of 17_02_1842 grant two months for imimigrants to return to Tlemcen, and if they did not return, their properties and lands would be confiscated.

In order to reach the acquiescence of the hostile to the occupation tribes, the French army was divided into military battalions and this is in order to comb the territory of Tlemcen and its environs.

Because of the important borderlines of Tlemcen, the colonial administration had to establish military outposts and fortresses to monitor the movements of all the tribes especially the opposition such as Anjjad, Beni Znassen and Beni Snous, to besiege and punished them for the most extreme reasons either by imprisonment or to pay financial penalty.
