Abstract EN

This article aims to highlight the political role of the tribe by talking about the relationship between tribal allegiance and political participation.

It is remarkable recently that the allegiance to the clan or the tribe still exists in some Arab societies despite the growth of the state bureaucracy and its apparatuses, as if the political modernization and urban modernization did nothing to change the reality of tribal influence, yet even some political parties have become dependent on tribal allegiance for political gains, and thus the prejudice or solidarity within the scope of the tribal relations had become motives for political participation.

And in turn, the political behaviour of individuals becomes an irrational voting behaviour that reflects the growing spirit of tribal nepotism within a narrow or patronized political culture.
