Abstract EN

The search sought to extract the representations of women hidden in popular proverbs, where addressing to the question of whether women in proverbs respond to the demands and their aspirations for modernity, or to devote a picture of a traditional woman designed to perform traditional functions established in the past.

The search fell in the context of psycho-social studies depending in achieving it on the steps of analytical descriptive approach, and on the analysis of semantic content method for analysing a broad code of proverbs consisting of (196) proverbial expressions, as well as a quantitative analysis in order to obtain a geometry image of the relationship between the contents of social representation of women.

The study has provided conclusive answers to her research questions, where the proverbs reflected the socio-cultural background of traditional Algerian thinking in dealing with women, and asserted the stability of her personality and the marginalization of her status, also stripped it of any real possibility to participate in social development.
