Abstract EN

The aim of this research is to identify the sources of water during the first and second centuries A.H.

in the Hijaz region; one of the areas where natural water sources are scarce or none existent.

Water is an important element in the existence of human life.

The main source of water is rain and the method in which it is stored, supplying people with water whenever it is needed.

The paper also discusses the technicalities of water plants, tanks and reservoirs, their types and their process of operation.

The engineering technique used in water purification and distribution has also been investigated along with the water reservoirs established to sell water.

The research focuses on water facilities in Jeddah, Madinah and surrounding areas.

Jeddah is considered one of the most urban areas regarding the number of water reservoirs and water plants with a total number of 500.The efforts of the Islamic Caliphate in providing water to the holy places are traced and recorded as reflected on the way pilgrims were served in the context of maintaining water facilities and insuring their continuity.
