In the course of more than a century of colonization, the ancestral cultural heritage and the national identity have witness edvarious changes which have led, among other things, to the restriction of the teaching of the Arabic language and the Worship of Muslims.

The Algerian national movement has claimed, sinceitsinception, the restoration of the teaching of Arabic and the freedom of Muslim worship, two aspects of the Algerian culture, considered as benchmarks of the national cultural identity.

After the independence, Algeria set up an educational system which aims to restore Arabic and Islam in the places that were theirs before 1830.
