Abstract EN

The issue of the Israeli settlements is considered as one of the most prominent issues in the Palestinian Israeli conflict, which relates to the conflict over the possession of the land and the exploitation of its resources.

This research paper examines the geographic distribution of the Israeli settlements and their ongoing expansion in the Nablus Governorate.

These settlements devastatingly affected the different aspects of the life of the Palestinian people.

This paper uses Geographic Information Systems “GIS”; in addition, it follows the historical methodology to get information related to settlements, and their phases of establishment.

This methodology is also used to analyze data and information collected using descriptive and analytical approach.

This study found out that the occupied sites amounted to 44% of the total area.

Settlements make up 3.2%, bypass roads 0.8%, military posts 0.5%, closed military zones 17.5%, confiscated lands next to the settlements 12.1%, and the inaccessible lands without coordination 9.9%.

Thus, the area that this research paper examines is one of the most affected areas in terms of settlement expansion.

The research paper recommends the following: carrying out campaigns to reclaim lands threatened with confiscation, supporting farmers to hold on to their land, horizontal construction expansion instead of vertical expansion, and promoting the role of media in its different forms to resist the Israeli settlement expansion.
