English Abstract

During the Post-colonial period, some writers appear to defend Nigeria and the Nigerian identity through their works.

To challenge the alleged identity which is designed by the westerns.

This issue is directly linked to the notion of the modern tragic hero in the latest novels and plays.

Therefore, This study offers a critical and comparative approach in examining these two Nigerian works: Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart and Wole Soyinka's Death and the King's Horseman.

The main objectives of studying these two works is to examine the notion of the modern tragic hero in them and find the similarities or differences that exist between them and the main reason or factors that led to their tragic flaws.

The thesis is divided into three chapters with an introduction and conclusion.
