Arabic Abstract

هذه الرسالة عبارة عن دراسة نقدية و مقارنة لكل من رواية رالف بيتر " الحرب في عام 2020" و دافيد أغناطيوس " وكلاء البراءة " من أجل تقصي فكرة الإسلاموفوبيا أي " التصوير المرعب للإسلام و المسلمين على نحو عدائي " تتضمن المرتكزات الأساسية للدراسة خمسة محاور رئيسة : الأول نظرة الغرب الى المعتقدات و القيم الإسلامية، و كيف يرى الغرب هذه القيم و المعتقدات بما يناسب منظومة القيم الفكرية و يخدم أهدافه و تصوير المرأة المسلمة على أنها مضطهدة تؤدي دور واحد و هو إمتاع الرجل المسلم اللاهث وراء الشهوة و اللغة بصفتها المحور الثالث حيث إن الكاتب هو من يحدد مستوى اللغة و نوع المصطلحات و جزالة التركيب لكل شخصية في الرواية، و لذلك تعد اللغة جزءا مهم من الشخصية و دليلا على الطبقة أو المستوى الاجتماعي، و المحور الرابع يركز على كيفية تمثيل عقلية المسلم و العناصر المؤثرة في تصرفاته، و خيرا تصوير أمريكا بوصفها دولة لا تقهر ذات تفوق و سيادة.

تكتسب هذه العوامل من خلال الرواية تأثيرا كبيرا لها في تكوين ما يسمى بالإسلاموفوبيا، حيث أصبح المسلمون و الإسلام مصدرا للرعب و ترتب على ذلك الكثير من الاضطهاد و الإساءة و التنكيل في الغرب و خارجه تحمل هاتان الروايتان بذور هذه الكراهية للإسلام و المسلمين و تزرعانها في عقول القراء و تحاول هذه الرسالة دراسة الظاهرة العدائية و السبل التي وظفت بها فنيا و فكريا في كلتي الروايتين الأمريكيتين عبر نظرة نقدية و مقارنة مستندة إلى نصي الروايتين أولا و الدراسات النقدية الصادرة حول هاتين الروايتين ثانيا .

English Abstract

Islamophobia has a severe impact on Muslims at home and abroad.

The distortion of the images of Muslims and Islam has been developed and processed by the western writers via their literary works, films, papers, and other works.

This distortion led to hostility and hatred, which consequently resulted in negative actions against Muslims and Islam.

It is thus important to explore the seeds of Islamophobia which are planted in Western politics thought, literature, and other cultural fields.

This thesis takes two novels as examples and adopts an analytical and comparative approach to study them.

The two novels constitute the primary resources: Ralph Peters' novel The War in 2020 (1991), and David Ignatius' novel Agents of Innocence (1987).

The secondary resources include books, essays, articles, and other literary works produced on the two novels or the topic Islamophobia.

The study of primary resources aims at highlighting the manifestation of Islamophobia in both novels.

The thesis is divided into four chapters.

The introduction tries to look into the term Islamophobia, how it was developed, how it had gained its currency, what are the apparatuses that are involved in its industry, and how it was invested in literature.

The second chapter provides a critical study of David Ignatius' novel Agents of Innocence.

The third one will be also an analytical study of Ralph Peters' novel The War in 2020 as far as the theme of Islamophobia is concerned and its relation to the first novel.

Peters' books are used to clarify his position and relevant points in his novel.

The conclusion includes a comparative study of both novels, highlighting similarities and differences of their treatment of Islamophobia.

The conclusion also points out how Islamophobia is integrated in both novels, presents a critical evaluation of the two novels' treatment of the aspects of the Islamophobia, and the findings of the resarch work as exposed in the previous chapters.
