Abstract EN

Al- ANBAARIY's report, in "AL-INSAAF", concerning the position of the Kufan grammarians as to why the first radical -W- is deleted in the nonderived verbs of the "fadila" class, is very perplexing indeed: According to the Kufans, these verbs are subject to deletion bacause they are "mutasiddiy", that is, in the usual terminology, "transitive”, and the "fadila" classe is "laazim”, that is "intransitive", and thus fails to meet the required conditions for deletion.

Now, one can easily find verbs of the first class which do not accept "direct objects’’ and verbs of the second class which do.

i'But unless one accepts the very unlikely hypothes is that the Kufanj grammarians were grossly ignorant, one has to suppose that they attached to the word "laazim", used to qualify the "fadila" class, a maening other than the B as ran one wich has become "standard".

Is there a reasonable and possibly intersting meaning of the word "laazim" wich can be significantly associated with the "fadila" class of verbs? that is the question this paper tries to answer.
