Abstract EN

This research aims to study the Yemeni proverbs in Makhlaf Alaud region, Ibb Governorate in the light of Semantic Field Theory, thus contributing to the preservation of this linguistic heritage so that researchers could benefit from this study.

The researcher has come up with a number of results, the most important of which are: 1.

Proverbs are symbols of pride, eloquence and singularity.

2.

The study reveals the relativity of semantic relations in various proverbs such as interpretation, questioning, etc.

3.

The study reveals that proverbs convey hidden connotations, which can be shown through close and remote significances.

4.

The study reveals that there are words in the proverbs which have no meaning in Standard Arabic, and may belong to the old Yemeni language.

5.

The study also reveals that proverbs may share more than one semantic field, and convey several educational and moral messages, urging people to be patient, do good to individuals and society, renounce all bad deeds including injustice, corruption, etc.
