Abstract EN

The study aimed at determining the effect of increasing the wheat cultivated area on increasing its productivity, and thus on achieving food security in Sudan.

The problem of study stemmed from the existence of a food gap in the country due to the shortage of wheat domestic production; besides the rise in its consumption due to changing consumption pattern for the majority of the population.

The study adopted the descriptive analytical and statistical methods; in addition to the econometric method for data analysis.

The study main findings revealed the existence of a positive relationship between the production of wheat and its cultivated area, which points to the importance of horizontal expansion in agricultural area.

The study main recommendations call for giving more attention for increasing the agricultural area allocated for wheat; as well as focusing on horizontal expansion through rehabilitation of more agricultural land; especially the country is characterized by availability of immense agricultural area suitable for cultivation.
