Abstract EN

The current study is concerned on describing the status and position of the Algerian University through its ranking in the International Classification of Universities (Shanghai Classification and Webometrics2019…), where it diagnosed this situation, which showed that the level of performance of Algerian universities has not yet reached to the level of the developed world universities, and that this is not the first time that Algerian universities are classified in non-honorable ranks, and does not receive the reputation of a country such as Algeria, this low ranking does not reflect the expected results despite the huge allocations by the state on the higher education sector, although the availability of adequate human and material resources.

In order to improve the ranking of the Algerian University in the International Classification of Universities and to raise the quality of higher education, the study recommended the need to adopt a governance based on the objectives of reform and continuous evaluation through placing of corrective measures to address the deficiencies recorded in the application of the LMD system.
