Abstract EN

This study presents practical forms on the mechanisms for analyzing the media discourse in the Libyan newspapers.

It examines the tools that are used to write news texts, and how they are employed.

To answer this question, the study reviews the linguistic tools used in news dealing with the current events in Libya, and applying them to all edited news materials produced by different issues of the Libyan newspapers Al-Sabah and Libya Al-Ekhbaria during the period from April to September 2019, two issues of each newspaper per month .

The study argues that the sample newspapers have used some language tools that come under the umbrella of critical discourse analysis, such as concealment, evading, and representation of social actors while covering these events.

Such use is usually accompanied by various social and political practices that are in the context of news production.

These practices are the goals of newspapers which will guide the readers' opinion on certain issues in line with the editorial guidelines .

This paper also addresses the importance of using discourse analysis in general and critical discourse analysis in particular in the field of media studies, from the perspective of language use.

It highlights the social, cultural and political contexts surrounding media discourse, explaining the complications when applying such model due to the fact that such field is too broad and its multidisciplinary nature when overlapping with other fields such as politics and sociology .
