The relationship between the Central Bank and Islamic banks varies from one country to another; some countries have been transferred all their banks to Islamic banks, including the Central Bank.

Other countries issued special laws to regulate this type of banks, and others have established Islamic banks with exceptional laws limited to mere permission to establish it, while they remain subject to the same laws and regulations governing traditional banks as in Algeria, even though the nature and specifications of Islamic banks require a set of considerations, conditions and exceptions to the Central Bank's control which should be taken into account.

This situation has created many problems to Al Baraka Bank of Algeria as the first Islamic bank to open in the Country, as shown in this article
